Play 305: Slip

CHARACTERS
GEOFF, 18
HANNAH, 18

(They sit on a couch making out.)

GEOFF
(In between kissing)
I love you Katie.

(She pulls away.)

GEOFF
What?

(Beat.)

HANNAH
You said Katie.

GEOFF
I did?

HANNAH
Yes.

(Beat.)

GEOFF
I meant Hannah.

HANNAH
Then why did you say Katie?

GEOFF
I don’t know.

(Pause.)

HANNAH
You didn’t mean my best friend Katie, did you?

GEOFF
I didn’t mean anything.

HANNAH
Then what was it?

GEORGE
A weird slip.

HANNAH
That doesn’t mean it didn’t mean anything.

GEORGE
It didn’t.

(Pause.)

HANNAH
You’ve been distant lately.

GEORGE
I’ve had a lot of work.

(Beat.)

HANNAH
You don’t seem as excited to see me anymore.

GEORGE
Yes I do, you’re imagining things.

(Pause.)

GEORGE
So…

HANNAH
What?

(Beat.)

GEORGE
Do you want to get back to…

HANNAH
No.

(Beat.)

Not now.

GEORGE
Okay.

(Beat.)

HANNAH
I think I should go, I have a lot of work due tomorrow.

GEORGE
Can’t you stay a bit longer?

HANNAH
No.

(Beat.)

GEORGE
I’ll see you tomorrow then.

HANNAH
Yeah.

(She exits.)

(Blackout.)
